List 14: Proust Questionairre Part I

1.  What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being at home surrounded by children and animals and flowers, with an hour or two to be alone and read in bed.

2.  What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Pessimism.

3.  What is your greatest extravagance?
Fresh flowers in the depths of winter.

4.  What do you dislike most about your appearance?
My peasant-stock stubby legs (although now they are competing with my softening jawline).

5.  What is your greatest regret?
Deciding not to study abroad because I was afraid to leave a boy.

6.  Which talent would you most like to have?
Any sort of musical ability.

7.  What is your current state of mind?
Wistful.

8.  If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
Can I go backwards in (fictional) time and be Elizabeth Bennett?

9.  What is your most treasured possession?
My tweed teddy bear, made from my grandfather's old coat by my grandmother and I.

10.  What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Having to make small talk at parties.

  2. 1.  What is your idea of perfect happiness?
    Being outside, walking along a shady path in the woods with my husband, watching the dogs chase chipmunks and the wind blows.

    Or, reading, cooking and watching films and working on projects while a thunderstorm blows outside.

    2.  What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
    how I tend to stay too long in the the familiar, stagnating...

    3.  What is your greatest extravagance?
    Polaroid film

    4.  What do you dislike most about your appearance?
    My knees.

    5.  What is your greatest regret?
    I really try not to have those, believing I did the best I could, with what I had, for that time.

    6.  Which talent would you most like to have?
    I wish I was fantastic at rock climbing.

    7.  What is your current state of mind?
    balancing between peace/ quick actions/ wanting more/ creating/ absorbing what is.

    8.  If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
    I think I'd be french.

    9.  What is your most treasured possession?
    my creativity and ability to be mentally flexible. Physically, there are many things I love (my Polaroids, my teacups, my books) but none of those aren't anything I couldn't live without. I treasure my husband and my 2 dogs and my little wisp of a cat, but I don't feel that I possess them. I guess I would pick...My altered books, my poems, and my Polaroids. :)

    10.  What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
    Feeling the pressure of so much to accomplish, but not feeling up to the task.
