In Progress

This shirt has been hanging in the workroom untouched since Saturday.  Because frankly, it is pissing. Me. Off.  First, I had no idea that seersucker was so damn hard to sew!  It wants to unravel the moment the machine touches it.  I'm trying to be less of a lazy sewer and finish seams properly, but this is not the right fabric to learn on.  Secondly, binding.  Oh my word, binding.  I just don't get it.

I think the finished product will be really cute, though.  It's going to have some detail around the neck that you can't see yet.  And I'm always a (seer)sucker for clean, crisp cotton and stripes in the summer.  I'd love to knock off the striped shirt/printed skirt combo in this Design*Sponge post.  So pretty.

And because I'm a glutton for punishment (I want to like sewing, I really do!) I'd like to do Elsie Marley's Kids Clothes Week Challenge in addition to Julia's Wardrobe Challenge. I've had some patterns and ideas for little G. kicking around for awhile, and a week to push through one or two of them would be perfect.  Hopefully I'll get over my frustration and show off some finished products soon.

  1. I think it looks fantastic so far, even if it has been a pain to make. did you use a pattern?

  2. Thank you Meg! I worked on it a bit more today and am not feeling as frustrated.

I used a Simplicity pattern, I'll post more details when I'm done with it :)

  3. I sewed with seersucker Once and that was the end of that! anything but seersucker...or velvet, that was hard too.

it made me wonder about the name it was given because I felt like the sucker ;)

    keep sewing!

  4. My gosh, I have sewing dilemmas sometimes and they are the worst: so frustrating! It makes me want to sew everything by hand because at least then, I KNOW where stuff is: not shooting off to the sides of the foot or doubled up underneath. Sewing velvet makes me laugh because I end up with so much of it my mouth when I lick a finger for traction.

    Good luck with this. :)
